Photo Thread: Lockeed Super Connie at PIK

Here are some photos taken by myself or by my mate Steve of the Super Connie at Prestwick today (3/4/04). It was great to get on board and meet the crew that have brought it this far from California on it’s way to Basle in Switzerland.

A big thank you to Eddie Allison of PIK for making it possible and to the hard working crew for their patience and good humour as we scrambled all over their aircraft. 🙂

Great pics Ren, thanks for putting them up. Looks great and sounds even better!

Looked a bit warner than it was on Sunday evening – absolutely freezing waiting for her to come in. Heard somewhere else that it was due to be open to the pubblic while at PIK, but having been down that way Saturday and Sunday, didn’t want to go down the road for nothing.

Marvellous Pics there Ren Frew – very pleased to see another beautiful aircraft in our skies once again – and to see that facilities were made for people to go and have a look too. Splendid stuff.

here, you started it sending me a text during the FC Basel title party on Sunday night. That was a ten hour shift… and we thought we were halucinating at one stage when two Basel fans walked up the road outside with the Crossbar from Thun on their shoulders… quite how they managed to get it in the train for the hour and a half ride back from the game is a bit of a mystery, though…

Anyway, Aviation related, Ryanair were only intrested in operating out of Basel (and this is perfectly true, btw), if they could rename it Zürich Euroairport… not surprisingly, The Airport authorities told them to GTF… 😉

Nah… didn’t you read that Text message I sent you the other day? 😉

It’s going to Paris-Le Bourget on Thursday, and on Saturday it’s due in at Basel/Mulhouse at 11am CEST. 10am BST… surely about the same time you pitch up at Celtic Park for some little inconsequential fixture live network wide?

No point in sending me text’s when I’m at work having slept for four hours the night before, can’t really focus the eyeballs let alone the memory stuff. 😮

Paris-Mulhouse ? I was thinking of the latest Ryanair hub no doubt 😉 , shouldn’t really attempt to offer information like that so early in the morning.

As for that inconsequential fixture… I’ll be watching that from the sofa ! 😀

The Super Connie will leave Prestwick this Thursday at 11am for Paris-Mulhouse. It’s been announced that they won’t be letting people visit on board at Mulhouse as they need to get the plane ship shape for it’s official arrival in Basle on Saturday.

You lucky, lucky b*gger, thanks for posting the pics. I think she may be booked for Flying Legends, so hopefully I’ll see her then.

Great pics, bring back a lot of memories, they have one down here belonging to H.A.R.S in hybrid Qantas livery from the fifties, doing the air show circuit

I think I’ve got a tape somewhere of the documentary of the resoration of that Austrailian Connie Steve. I’ll try and find a copy of it for you. 🙂

Polar Aviation offered the free use of their hangar so that the engineering crew could work on the plane in the dry. A tug was despatched to push her round to the hangar, they decided not to put her right inside unless the weather got really bad. This allowed the public to get a view of her all day…

I was videoing most of the day, and Steve was busily snapping away with his and my DSLR’s. Video footage to follow…
