Duo Bust

duo suspends operations
Bill Dawson and Andrew Peters, partners of Deloitte, were appointed Joint Administrators to Duo Airways Limited (“duo”) on 1 May 2004. They act as agents of the company and without personal liability. Following this appointment Duo has ceased to trade and there will be no further flights.

Passengers who have booked flights, which are now cancelled, are unlikely to be protected by ATOL. However, if they have paid by credit card, the amount was more than ยฃ100 and that credit card is issued under an agreement between a credit card company and an individual, sole trader or partnership, then the credit card issuer may be responsible under the Consumer Credit Act for giving a refund.

We recommend that passengers contact their credit card company for more details.

Passengers who have travel insurance should contact their insurance provider for more details.

Passengers who booked and paid a travel agent for flights, should contact the agent for advice.

Passengers paying for flights by any other source namely cash or cheque will have an unsecured claim against Duo.

If a company has paid for the tickets via any source, it is likely that the company will have an unsecured claim against Duo.

We are unable to repatriate passengers who are abroad and therefore they need to make alternative arrangements to return home.

Should you wish to discuss the position please write to Duo at:

Is there still a chance of them returning?
Under a new name or as the same?

Airline goes into administration

Duo offered flights from Edinburgh and Birmingham
A Birmingham-based airline has gone into administration, putting more than 300 jobs at risk.
Duo Airways Limited, which offered flights from Birmingham International Airport and Edinburgh Airport, only started operating in June.

The company suspended all operations at 0001 BST on Saturday.

Duo, which flew seven aircraft to northern Europe and Scandinavia, has blamed the collapse of its business on a failure to secure extra investment.

No protection

People due to return to the UK with the airline, or who were scheduled to fly from Birmingham or Edinburgh, have been forced to make alternative arrangements.

Duo said its customers were “unlikely” to be protected by Atol (Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing), the scheme set up to protect the public from losing money or being stranded abroad when travel firms go bust.

The administrators Deloitte and Touche said the airline’s revenues had not been as high as anticipated, even though bookings had been growing.

In a statement, Deloitte said extra investment was found for Duo but that “poor trading” in March 2004 meant even more cash was needed to keep the firm afloat.

Bill Dawson, a partner at the administrators, said: “There was a real prospect that Duo could find these funds to support its growing booking levels but, although the board worked hard to achieve this, the additional investments did not come through in time.

“We will be working hard with the management and authorities to help to communicate the situation to customers and employees.”

The company, whose headquarters are in Coventry Road, Birmingham, was formed in June 2003 following a management buyout of the former Maersk Air Limited.

Customers requiring information should call the helpline number 0121 743 9090 for assistance.

Slightly more awful news for the staff of Duo!

This is very sad, if only they had done more advertising! ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ™
EDI has now just lost a whole load of Euro routes all at once.
Geneva, Zurich, Oslo, Munich, Bordeaux, Milan, summer charters to Olbia and Bastia! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ This is awful for both EDI and BHX, as they will have lost more routes.
I never did get to experience their amazing service, just goes to show that one day in the not too distant future we shall be living in a world with nothing but LCCs. ๐Ÿ™
Help! Lufthansa, Alitalia, Swiss, SAS. EDI needs you!
An example of a carrier who expanded too quickly I think, They only had one succesful route and that was EDI-OSL.( sorry GLAsgow you were wrong! ๐Ÿ˜ก )
As I predicted and feared they have become another JetMagic ๐Ÿ™

Very sad ๐Ÿ™
Seems a shame that new regional airlines trying to offer a superior product can’t survive against the lo-cos.

I donโ€™t know why everyone is so surprised. I predicted (not in this forum) that Duo would go because their EDI flights all have a load factor of under 20% but they kept on adding new flights from EDI.

Very sad news and rather unexpected as they had recently decided to acquire the Saab 2000 for expansion, as well as recently starting an EDI base.
The airline used to be a BA franchise but decided to go it alone late last year. Obviously it just couldn’t cope with the competition against the thing that had kept it alive for so many years. BA will surely move back into BHX in a bigger way now.
