Luxor Air banned from NL, BE, IT, SW

THE HAGUE – Dutch autorities have suspended the permission of Luxor Air to fly in Dutch airspace. During an inspection Luxor Air did not pass a number of regulations, amongst others the correct determination of the weigth, the manner of loading and the use of mandatory manuals.

Prior to the inspection the Dutch autorities demanded the Egyptian autorities to take measures against Luxor Air. According to the Dutch autorities this request was not followed. As long as the demands are not met Luxor Air will not be allowed to fly in Dutch airspace. The autorities of Belgiun, Italy and Switzerland have followed the Dutch example.

The problems came to light after a “SAFA-inspection” (Safety Assessment Foreign Aircraft) of a Luxor Air plane at Schiphol. At the request of the inspectors the flight preperations where performed as mandatory and the plane flew back to Egypt. Until some structural changes are made to the airline they will not be allowed back here.

In March of 2004 the same airline had a temporary ban on entering the French airspace. The exchange of information between the French and Dutch autorities was the reason for additional attention. That’s why the airline was checked, and banned, after only their first flight to the Netherlands in a long while!
