Rumours flying around that as of June Next year Phuket airlines will start a BKK-LGW service using Boeing 747-300’s, and they may upgrade to a 747-400 in early December if the route proves a success.
Also Phuket airlines has recently announced that they will be operating flights out of Bangkok to Chittagong and then onto Dubai from May 20.

Can this route be profitable? – i doubt daily flights are justified to the Thai Resort – they should trial it seasonal first. The main market for tourist’s to asia and the east is at MAN and LHR.

Excellent news.
It was bound to happen sooner or later. I don’t know how often the charter services from Gatwick to Phuket are, but they can’t be more frequent than weekly, so a new 2 or 3 times weekly service would be excellent.
I was questioning whether Phuket Airlines launching this service may eliminate the need for charter aircraft flying the same route. Holidaymakers could fly with Phuket Airlines.
The 747-300 should be an ex-KLM aircraft if I am not mistaken. 😉

I don’t think Phuket has 744s and they don’t have the financial resources either to get them. In fact, last I heard is that Phuket is not doing all that well.
