AIR ATLANTA ADDS TWO BOEING 747-400 AIRCRAFT TO FLEET
-New contract with Iberia provides 5,8 billion kronur revenue for a period of two years.
Air Atlanta has added two new Boeing 747-400 airplanes to the Atlanta fleet. These are the largest and most advanced type of aircraft made by Boeing. The airplanes will be registered in Iceland, the first of this type to be registered in Iceland as well as in the Nordic countries.
The airplanes will be leased with flight crew and maintenance service to Iberia, the spanish airlines. The contract with Iberia spans a period of two years during which the routes will be between Madrid and Havana, and between Madrid and the Canary Isles. Estimated revenue from the contract is 5,8 billion Icelandic kronur.
Air Atlanta leases its aircraft to other airlines needing extra capacity. In addition to aircraft, the company leases crews and provides maintenance and insurance. Air Atlanta is the largest company of this kind in the world, by the measure of the size of its fleet or by the number of hours of operation. The company presently runs 35 Boeing airplanes. Air Atlanta employs over 750 employees working at twelve bases in nine countries.
The company is one of the few ACMI operators holding regulatory approvals in Europe, Canada and the United States.

Bemused on what do you base that idea?
Paul
On well known statements from Iberia pilots.
I no longer have any link to them. But the basic gripe was:
A343’s suffering performance degredation worse that their 22 year old B747-200s
A346’s going tech within weeks of service. (A shade of the other problem with A321’s and A330s I mention on the other thread)

I’m not saying the A343/346 are bad, Just that they are not living up to Airbuses promises, in Iberia’s experience

No, being the anti airbus person I am, I’d immediately agree.
But, as a level headed contributer to these forums (atleast I hope I am) I would say that its probably to fill a gap untill their next lot of A346’s are ready for them or untill they decide to scrap the rest of the order and go for either the 744 or 777. either way, they are most likely just to fill a gap.
However having said that, they could well be leasing them to test the performance, how they fit in etc.

read this it says IBERIA will get them
Is this just further proof of IB being unhappy with their A346’s, that they are leasing a pair of 744’s?

The 744’s won’t end up with Excel as they don’t suit the operation.
my point entirely

Regardless of whether or not Atlanta have a stake in Excel, if Excel do not need the 744’s capacity they will not get it.
At the moment the figures I seen do not support the introduction of a 747, let alone a 400!

It won’t be long and no doubt a 747 will go into service with Excel… after all Atlanta is now a major stakeholder. I would love the -400’s to go to them, that will be fantastic!!

Great scheme. But what is the point of this air atlanta – it has always sounded rather doggy to me. What sort of buisness does the airline endure in?
