Low cost carrier with 744's

sorry if its been posted before but looking in March edition of AW it says that an airline called backpakersxpress will be flying from MAN to SYD with 2 744’s one of which will go via DEL and the other via BKK. Does anyone think this venture will be successful

The idea has been bandied about in this country for years, if the idea ever comes to fruition, i’m sure it would be an overwhelming success

I suppose they could make considerable amounts from ancilliarys as well, although your right Duchy, business class and first class pax do subsidise the lowest fares. They would have to fill every single one of their flights to the brim I should imagine, and with only 2 744s they would be in big trouble if one went tech – mind you backpacking types are unlikely to be as fussed as business types. Its an interesting one this.

I’m looking forward to a smily face landing at my local airport!
If I’m upset,I’ll look at the time, see if it’s coming in or going out of MAN,go down and see a nice happy face!:)

the targed fare will be £550 fully-flexible return fare from Manchester to Melbourne. A lot less then the £800 being paid. I think it is highly doubtfull if this will be profitable, especially if you consider that main stream airlines get the most proffit from the 1st and business class passengers.

But I wish them well, I like the concept :-),

Its a nice format, and a nice idea, but I really find myself doubting it will. That is a very narrow market, and i should imagine the set up costs are very very high. If I was flying from UK to Aus, I could get a ticket on a ‘normal’ airline for in the region of £800, so BPX would have to be cheaper to tempt me. Mind you, with an all economy layout there will be significant economies of scale to be enjoyed so maybe they could get their fares lower. There are good reasons why LCCs dont operate long haul, and i wonder why this airline will be any different…

Would be great to see it be successful though
