Today (10/4/04) saw the arrival and departure of the inaugural Emirates Glasgow-Dubai service, using an A330-200 (A6-EAQ).
This new daily service represents GLA’s first long haul scheduled destination outside of the USA and is therefore a milestone in Glasgow Airport’s history.
The A330 was met by firecrews offering a water cannon salute as it arrived at gate 30. Dignitaries from Glasgow Airport, Glasgow City Council and Emirates were also on hand to welcome in the new service. Here are some of my pictures and a report can be found HERE
This is her on approach to runway 05…

I believe the PIA flight is to be an A310.

Good question. Couple of months ago that multi coloured one was parked near the BMI hangar by the road at the West end of the airport I recall

Still a few around Mark. It’s only the -300, so they’re still relatively new. I think SAA still has them doesn’t it?

Love those 747 classics with the P&W engines. Their days are numbered now as well I suppose…

The 747 is the largest at GLA, although you’ll only find it occasionally.
… such as this shot taken last year.
Also, I absolutely loved the Emirates shots Ren , just a pity the weather wasn’t up to scratch!

Another approach shot by me, a shame it was so overcast as those hills in the background really light up in colour when the sun is shining on them…

Ha ha… oops ! D’ya ken whit a mean Bhoy ?:D
Rumours abound of Air Canada giving up GLA in the face of severe competition though…:( Not sure if Zoom counts as scheduled or charter though ?

This new daily service represents GLA’s first long haul scheduled destination outside of the USA. A milestone in Glasgow Airport’s history.
Glasgow has 40 direct flights a week to Canada, daily to the Caribbean and also has frequent flights to Mexico and Africa
A milestone in Glasgow Airport’s history. Yes definitely a historic and fantastic day for Glasgow airport. The 1st flight left with a full load and emirates said when they start new routs they expect to make a loss in the 1st year of operating the rout but they expect to make massive profit on the 1st year of the Glasgow flights and could go 2x daily or 777 next year.
