According to a.net LHR is going to get a new OFFICIAL observation area overlooking the North runway. Does anyone happen to know something about it?

Come on BAA..wise up! The last place any terrorist is going to launch anything from is a spectators terrace thronging with Joe Public and all the eyes and cameras therewith. Give us back the rooftop!!!!!

The sun is a problem when you’re trying to take pictures if it’s facing you. Not only can it bugger up your camera, it lights up the wrong side of the aircraft that you need to be taking a picture of! Therefore it’s nearly impossible to get a good shot!

I got some great views from the visitors centre i was there in August and the sun was no problem

I try to avoid the Visitors Centre at all costs – If such a facility is placed there then photographers are screwed because it faces the sun – Nice Planning BAA!

I was at LHR this afternoon (9th) and there was a mobile spectator stand in one of the carparks by the Visitors Centre, if that’s the extent of their “new” spectators stand then no expense spared! It was cheap and nasty with very few people actually using it.

As far as I know its going to be something similar to the ‘concorde’ grandstand. That was the standard airshow type located in the visitor center carpark. Not much to get excited about unless they cut down all the lamposts along the permiter road:D ,I wish!
