Teesside Airport Prepares for Busy Year

Latest News from the MME website:

http://www.teessideairport.com/press/index.htm#story3

The first phase of Peel Airports investment programme at Teesside International Airport is now complete. The Airport announced in January this year that work was to begin on the transformation of Teesside into a modern efficient airport facility and since then there have been significant changes to the infrastructure and terminal road amongst others that are currently in the planning stage.

Internal improvements include the relocation of the café/bar in the departure lounge and refurbishment of both the departure and the arrivals corridor areas. Externally the new road in-front of the terminal building will allow passengers easier access to the terminal and will provide wider and safer drop off zones.

These developments are only the first stage of a £20million investment programme over the next five years which will see improvements to all in areas of the Airport; and will be followed by the completion of an extension to the car park facilities by mid April and the completion of the new access road to the Airport by late summer of this year.

Kerry Quinn, Head of Airport Services said “This first phase of the £20million developments has been completed on target and in time for the summer season. Passengers travelling over the busy Easter period will enjoy enhanced facilities and an enlarged departure lounge.”

bmibaby, the award winning airline with tiny fares are operating flights to Belfast and Prague over the Easter weekend with holiday flights operating to Majorca, Alicante and the Canary Islands whilst scheduled services to Aberdeen, Heathrow, Amsterdam and Dublin will also operate. A day trip to Iceland will also operate with Transun and Newmarket Holidays are taking passengers away for eight days to the wonderful island of Sardinia.

The Airport is expected to see passenger numbers using services during this year approach the 1million mark.

You’ve just shown everyone how much i care about TeeSSide.

Nice to know you care. 🙂

I actually love Newcastle Airport. I think its a fantastic local airport thats gone from strength to strength in recent years. Easyjet will have a massive impact on there this year.

We, I doubt, will ever match you. However, we’re heading in the right direction. With Peel Holdings behind the airport, a small low-cost network getting going and passenger numbers on the up, things are certainly improving down here. 🙂

Actually, I don’t know whats happening with DTV name.

I know its been agreed but all marketing from the airport is still coming out as ‘Teesside’. I’m guessing they’ll officially launch the new name in the not too distant future.

Everything is relative Concordesst.

This year will be Teesside’s busiest year; a typical summer day will see:

4 x Aberdeen
3 x Amsterdam
3 x Heathrow
1 x Dublin
1 x Belfast
2 x Bmi Baby Holiday Destinations
4 x Summer Charter Flights

By my reckoning, thats 18 flights a day; slightly more than the 4 you quote. Sure, far less than Newcastle, but then we’re smaller than Newcastle.

If you’re going to be rude; at least get your facts right. 🙂
