what a week… absolutely brilliant. Well, ok, I was only there for a day, but the weekend since was almost as good. 😀
Anyway, there I was, working at the Pub here in Basel during the Champions League games on Wednesday night, getting home at 2am (well, it’s not the same if you don’t stay for the staff lockin), and suddenly my alarm goes off. 4am… Time to start getting a move on.
I get myself out to the Airport, and checked in for 5:30am, stopped off at the Duty Free and then headed down the Pier for my first flight in 15 months, and what’s more, it was my first flight on an RJ (excluding 146’s), Swiss ERJ-145LU HB-JAJ. Boarding time was down as 5:40, for the 6am flight, but as there were only 7 Passengers (!), the Gate attendant didn’t even show up until 6. By 10 past, we were pushing back, and obviously due to the sparse population onboard, even those of us in Economy got a free Newspaper. Unfortunately, I’d borrowed my mum’s Camera for teh trip, and messed up the picture of boarding the flight, although, as it only lasted 19 minutes for the 40odd miles to Zurich, I don’t think it really mattered. During those 19 minutes, we got offered a glass of Water for free, and the usual Swiss Choclate.

I saw one or two easyjet 737’s, and the checkin next to mine was bmibaby, although I never saw their aircraft. So there must have been a fair few locos about.
I’ve been checking the registrations I picked up, that KLM 737 was my first 739. 😀 And apparantly the Saab 2000 I came back on is the only one in the LX fleet with a silver tail, the rest have a grey tail.
I still haven’t been on a Saab 2000 in ‘standard’ colours, then… (my only previous flight in one being on the Eurocross promotional aircraft (HB-IYA))
Beach Balls rule. 😉

Top report Matt, a shame I couldn’t have joined you there last Thursday, spent the day sitting in Glasgow Sheriff Court waiting to be called as a witness in a trial. Wasn’t called and someone else got the Barca gig instead.
If I get to Valencia or Alicante soon, I’ll try and do a nice photo report as well. Oh and yes, I’ll say hello to Mr Larsson for you.:p

great report. I was at BCN last June/July and took a visit to the almighty Neu Camp stadium – what a place that must be with 120,000 mad Spaniads and Scots in!
Glad you had such a great trip!

You can use digital cameras during takeoff and landing, I believe. Matt, congrats on your team advancing. I fancy Barca, amongst others, so sucks for me. 😡 Great report, by the way. Much easier reading a very interactive one such as that with pics along the way.

Great report Bhoy! And congratulations on Celtic’s progress. As a Real Madrid fan I wasn’t too upset to see Barcelona crash out 😀
BTW, are we allowed to use digital cameras during taxiing, take-off and landing, or do they really mean ‘everything’ when they say ‘all electronic equipment must be switched off? I really wanted to take a couple during my last trip but I was within visual range of the cabin crew and didn’t want to get a bollocking.

A great report Matt, a very enjoyable read. Pictures are great. Glad you had a good time. You’ve given us a good insight to BCN, and it does look like a good airport to visit. The city i have been to, which is a stunning place.
Cheers! 🙂

A great report Bhoy, I love proper in depth reports like this, from start to finish! For that case, I try to do them like that myself, I’m just trying to dig-out the one I did when I flew upto Glasgow in December……….

In conclusion, I had a brilliant time in Barcelona, and anyone heading over there for a meet in the Summer is bound to enjoy themselves thoroughly.
And don’t forget… it’s compulsory to sing ‘And they gave us James McGrory and Paul McStay…’ nonstop the whole time you’re there. 😉

Unfortunately, right after landing, and taking this picture, the battery decided it had had enough, so I wasn’t able to get any pics of the aircraft at the gate, including CRJ’s of Lufthansa and CimberAir. 🙁

And still turning, and practically over 02, the short crossfield runway.
By: Bhoy - 29th March 2004 at 16:54
…and turning onto 34 for (very) short finals
By: Bhoy - 29th March 2004 at 16:53
We were to land on Runway 34 at BSL, which isn’t equipped with ILS, so we came in pretty close as we flew parallel to 16.
By: Bhoy - 29th March 2004 at 16:51
It didn’t take long for us to reach cloud level, which was about the time for the compulsory distribution of Swiss choclates.
By: Bhoy - 29th March 2004 at 16:49
Shortly afterwards, we began our descent.
