Wrong model!

This is a terrible error on this model! Probably only Belgians and Dutchmans will see it.

There was a similar post about a week ago that had an american flag in a similar position on the starboard side. WD explained it as the flag flying in the prevailing wind position as if it were on a flagpole, front to rear. I see a similar case in this scenario with Sabena. Similarly, in the U.S., if you hang a flag vertically as opposed to the normal horizontal, the stars must remain in the upper left which in certain cases means, flags being displayed on their ‘bottom side’ which at times displays stitches as opposed to the top.

P.S. I love that Olympic Comet in the background of that Sabena prop-job in LHR circa 1963.

Nasir.

It wasn’t a theory of any kind, it was a throwaway remark consistent with the mood I’m in. Apologies.

BTW I love your profiles, stunning stuff.

Not really a robust theory. Sometimes the perfectionists, with their obsession with details are the ones who come crashing down for a lack of seeing the forest for the tree.

Some countries have a rule for flag displays stating that the flag on a vehicle must be shown as it would be seen on a Flag Pole.

IE in the Port side of a vehicle, the flag will be on the correct way round. But on the Starboard side its reversed. as if seeing it from the other side of the flagpole.
All American carriers with the American flag do this.
Perhaps Belgium does this too.
I cite these photo’s as evidence to my idea. (just a colleciton of many I’ve seen)

EDIT: Having look at this a little further it seems that all the international flying aicraft had the flag on the correct way on both sides.
Perhaps this was a measure to avoid confusion when at international airports.

Agree to an extent, but if Sabena had been the perfectionists you claim perhaps they would still be in existence?

Andrew.

It is nothing to do with symmetry. It is an out and out error. As the model companies pride themselves on their accuracy it is something of a glaring mistake. Don’t know about the Belgian flag, but incorrect ‘flying’ of a National flag may have some symbolic meaning. For instance, the Union Jack, when flown upside down, is a symbol for help or distress. The differences are subtle but can have great meaning.

No not really. On some aircraft the flags are round the wrong way, this creates symetry.

Look in the pic in this link… the sabena 741 is around the other way… as is the flag… so its not a mistake. Its meant to be like that i think?

Isn’t it the Belgian flag is the wrong way? Black should be on the left?
