KrasAir to lease II-96-300s

Krasnoyarsk Airlines (KrasAir) and Ilyushin Finance Company
(IFC) have signed an agreement on leasing two Il-96-300
passenger jets. According to the signed document, the aircraft
are to be leased for 15 years. The first plane will be supplied
in June 2004.
IFC general director Alexander Rubtsov noted that earlier both
aircraft had been supposed to be leased by Aeroflot within the
framework of a contract made in December 2003. According to
Rubtsov, to implement this contract and a contract on the supply
of two aircraft to Kuban Airlines the production of another 4
Il-96-300s at the Voronezh aircraft manufacturing facility had
started.
According to the KrasAir general director, the leased planes
will be used on domestic and charter flights. He also noted that
the airline might lease another Il-96-300 from the IFC in 2005.
As reported earlier, the cost of one Il-96-300 is some $40m.

At $40 mil per copy, what a bargain! Are these brand new aircraft? How much does an A340 ‘classic’ go for?
