British Caledonian
McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30
London – Gatwick (LGW / EGKK)
UK – England, July 1985
G-DCIO (cn 48277) This was a sight to behold. The whole left side of the pier was filled with British Caledonian DC10’s. There were 9 of em. These were the first 6.

I flew to Houston in 1981 on a BCal DC-10 (and returned on a similar aircraft). They were lovely flights with cheery and helpful staff. We even got a trip to the flight deck on each flight.
BCal itself was formed when the original Scoittish based airline, Caledonian, merged with British United Airways in 1970.

Great pic Steve and a reminder of my early days as an aviation enthusiast. Those B/Cal DC-10’s would make the odd visit to Glasgow on summer charter work, but generally speaking GLA was a B/Cal BAC1-11 stomping ground.

And that now explained to me why BA had some DC-10’s.
It’s also where BA’s first batch of A320’s came from. they had been ordered by B-Cal but were delivered already in BA livery.

Yes, BA bought it up in around ’87. Subsequently, BA used the B-Cal name for it’s Charter division (previously British Airtours); The name however soon dissapeared, before resurfacing as Caledonian, which eventually was merged into jmc, before becoming TCX.
