According to a source of mine i have heard that he has heard that Ansett Australia are re-starting under new managment using 3 of thier previous aircraft According to my source they are:
2 X A320’s
1 X B 767
If all goes well the airline (if this is true) will re-instate there Boeing 747’s

If all goes well for the new Fokker 50 venture of Annsett, then there would be no reason why they can’t broaden their wings.

Ansett won’t fly
Not even a wisp of possibility would have Ansett flying again.
As stated all A320/737 and 767s are gone. Most to continued flying careers around the world and the 767s mostly to the breakers yards. All Ansett terminals are in use by either QF or subsidiaries or by Virgin Blue. Engineering sites around the country are largely in use by Virgin Blue or Qantas. The exception is in Melbourne where the main Engineering Base is still in operation as Ansett Australia Engineering Services (AAES). This company is providing engineering services to the Ansett Bankruptcy Administrators in maintaining the remaining fleet of BAe146s in flyable storage as well as preparing the remaining 767s for ferry to the USA.
As a side note: Mr Stoddart’s 737-200 is also maintained in flyable storage at the base. Paul Stoddart is a likely customer for some of the 146s.
As to the story that a Townsville company was going to operate F27s (and I do mean F27s) in Queensland in the name of Ansett Airways I would simply say that the story first emerged on the 1st of April!

Is this true?
There is an Airline starting up in far North Queensland using the Ansett name, but as far as i know they’ll only be using Fokker F50’s to begin with and flying to some of the smaller Airports

Possably so Allan, but Jethros is currently listing it as the first Jet2 QC aircraft so it will probably operate the BFS-LPL-BFS-EMA-BFS flights overnight then the BFS-PRG and whatever else Jet2/Channex announce for the Belfast based aircraft. I don’t suspect they will fly the aircraft too intensly if it it this aircraft they fly during the week as they will have to have it back in place for the PO flights in good time so as to not incurr the financial penalties of late mail! Here is the info for the whole Channex B733 fleet from Jethros….

I’ve done some asking around, and nobody knows anything about it, just an unsubstantiated rumor i’m afraid

I would love to see Ansett re-strart, especially if UA codeshare with them once again. I’m just wondering how substancial this information is. Where did it come from?

All the A320s have been sold or returned to their lessors, and the 747s which were leased from Singapore Airlines are now with Air Pacific, the 767s are being parted out

It’s called going off at a tangent. It’s something we’re very good at. 😉 Now if you want to see real experts at going off at tangents have a read of the historic forum. Sometimes we surprise ourselves, what starts off as a pretty lacklustre topic can often turn into something really interesting.

One of my colleagues here at work used to be one of a group of 5 or 6 head chefs for Ansett.
He’d fly all over Ozzland making sure all the catering was up to spec and sometimes get to ride jumpseat.
But being away from home 6, sometimes 7 days a week was eventually too much and he packed it in to concentrate on his family.
That was in the early to mid 80’s

I don’t care what domestic carriers operate in Australia – as long as there are only TWO of them.
We have the land mass here that makes aviation essential, but not the population to support more than two airlines (total population of Australia is less than London).
Add to this the ridiculous price warring that goes on and its a recipe for disaster.
So my comment would be “I hope it never happens”.

No it won’t happen, Qantas has taken over their maintenance base at Melbourne, and Virgin Blue has taken over all their terminals, it just wouldn’t be feasible
