Jetstar is to lease its first three A320s from Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprises (SALE). The first two aircraft are reported to be msn 2169 and msn 2185 and are planned for delivery in June. Jetstar plans to commence operations in May with the 14 717-200s currently operated by QantasLink/Impulse. It is understood that prior to commencing service with Jetstar some of the 717s will be painted in Jetstar colours while the remainder of the fleet will have their Qantas identity removed.

Qantas’s new low cost carrier, Jetstar, has signed a firm contract with Airbus for 20 A320s and taken options on a further 40. Together with three leased A320s, Jetstar will operate a fleet of 23 aircraft by mid 2005. Melbourne based Jetstar will use its IAE V2500 powered A320s on services within Australia from July with the first of the leased aircraft. Deliveries of the purchased A320s will begin in October. In other Jetstar news, new Qantas subsidiary Express Ground Handling business will provide Jetstar ramp and baggage handling services at Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane airports. Arrangements for other ports were still to be finalised.
