Just been looking at flights to Belfast from LBA at Easter…
FlyBe fly there for £1.20. Great I thought. £32.80 TAXES! That makes it £8 more than Jet2 who charge a £14 standard fare instead of £1.20. How do they charge so much taxes as Jet2 charge £10 taxes so thats TRIPLE the cost.

Apparently, one trick Flybe have started using is:
Some flights are one-stoppers, ie. the aircraft lands at an intermediate airport, stops for 30 mins then takes off again. I flew IOM-LCY-JER last week, and they do some similar ones too.
The whole flight has the same flight number (BE116 for IOM-JER I think).
But they levy tax twice!

The LoCos should advertise the total fare INC taxes, as this is the total amount those, who choose to fly this way, will have to pay. I dont see the problem in these carriers doing that. It will stop alot of confusion at the time of booking and at least everyone will know straight off how much this “cheap trip” is going to cost them. Taxes are a fact of life although I have never agreed with taxing people to use airports.

Hypocritical!
Flybe’s current in flight magazine has a half page about the UK Government’s consultations on the future of air travel.
Flybe say that thay support the ring fencing of taxes.
In other words, no mucking about with re-classifying elements of the fare as “tax” to make the fare sound lower. BA do this as well.

I think all flight prices should be quoted and advertised including Tax, wouldn’t that make life easier???

This is a very interesting point. I was just wondering – do we get charged the tax on the subsidised landing fees or on the regular fees?
And where are the taxes published?

Good question.
Taxes irritate me so much. You can never fly for the price you think you can because your ticket is going to get much more expensive once tax has been added.
Airlines had to change the ways the advertised once. Basically, they were advertising flights at perhaps £30 one way. However, the compulsory taxes had not been added, so nobody can actually fly for the £30. Thought I’d mention that! 😀
