do you know what length the runway will be after the extension? Also there is no mention of enlarging the terminal, surely with improvements on virtually everything else the terminal will need to expand or is it already big enough?
These are the opptions the the airport is thinking to do about the runway:
• Do nothing;
• Do minimum within the existing airport footprint;
• A short extension of 345 metres, giving a total runway
length of 2,600 metres;
• A major extension of 745 metres, giving a total runway
length of 3,000 metres.
All options for an extension assumed that the airfield would
be extended at the eastern end in order to avoid the need to
realign the Metro line, B6918 and A696 at the western end.
There is no mention about the extention of the terminal in the masterplan

well most of that is a bit of a given – was perhaps referring to more exciting services rather than a “jumbo not a 737”

would like to see some bigger birds here aswell, a Far Eastern or regular Canadian service would be fantastic!!!
This is from the Master Plan:
”Can I expect bigger, noisier aircraft flying
at lower altitudes?
Larger aircraft may become more common during the
Masterplan period. Larger aircraft are not necessarily louder
than smaller aircraft, as new technology is constantly reducing
engine noise. Also, as larger aircraft can accommodate
more passengers, the number of aircraft movements will
rise, but at a lower rate than the rise in passenger numbers.
So, a doubling of passengers will not mean a doubling of
aircraft movements, and an increase in size of aircraft will
not necessarily mean an equal proportional increase in noise.
While Newcastle International is likely to accommodate
larger aircraft, particularly if the runway is extended, it is
unlikely that regular services will ever use the very largest
aircraft available.”

knowing the airfield fairly well everything looks pretty much logical. hope the new carparks give some sort of reasonable views though – the current facilites are crap!!!
