Airport car park forced to close

The car park must cease trading within six months
An unofficial car park near Bristol International Airport is to be forced to close after its owner lost a battle with his local council.
The Downside Farm site at Backwell was among 11 car parks which fell foul of North Somerset Council after opening without planning permission.

The council took legal action ordering them to close.

On Friday the owner of Downside Farm lost his appeal aginst the decision. He now has six months to cease trading.

Ten more appeals are to be held to decide the future of the other unofficial car parks near the airport at Lulsgate.

A similar thing has happened here down at Stansted. This car park was owned by the Bishop’s Stortford Football Club, who’s stadium is only a mile or so from the terminal. They provided un-official airport parking, and used minibuses to take passengers down to the terminal. The council has since told them that they need to stop this operation, however the football club relies heavily on the money it gets from the car park, and the club may actually have to close down becuase of this. Quite sad, considering how well the club have been doing lately.
