now official, SLM gets 747

Today it has been announced officially what we all knew for a few weeks. SLM Airlines is to get an ex-KLM full-passenger configured B747-300. The plane to be delivered will be the PH-BUW, newly delivered to KLM in oktober 1986.

Prior to delivery KLM will give the plane a mayor overhaul. It will then also be painted in SLM livery and receive a Surinam registration (PZ-***).

From the summer of 2004 onwards SLM will start their own flights between Amsterdam and Paramaribo. The joint venture between KLM and SLM covering KLMs 5 weekly B747-400 fligths between Amsterdam and Paramaribo will continue. However, some of the KLM flights will of course be replaced by SLM flights. KLM will do the monday and thursday flights, and SLM the other 3.
