Spanish airports

I noticed something amazing when I flew to Tenerife via BCN I noticed that planes are escorted by a car with flashing lights to the gate.
I looks smart to me.

Is it something specific to Spain or dor you know other airports with such a system.

I have seen them at a lot of airports, AMS (A apron and freight), DUS, Rotterdam…

Yes LEI also have one but this is not necessairy because there is only one main taxiway there and you can’t get lost on the taxiways !

Follow me vans/cars are very common in Europe. They are just an alternative way of guiding an aircraft onto stand visually rather than by radio instruction. As a common courtesy to the driver we turn off our taxi lights so we don’t blind them in their rear view mirror!

Yes I think that for some reason there always seem to be lots in Spain, but they do appear else where around the world. When I was up the Stansted control tower last week, I saw an Excel 767 being escorted to it’s parking stand in this way.

It’s common around the world in a lot of places. Although the last time I saw one was also in Spain at Malaga.:D
