Ansett Australia 767-277 VH-RME was cancelled from the register on November 6 with the reason given as ‘Destruction of aircraft’. In late October VH-RME was moved out of the hangar at Melbourne where the aircraft was being broken up. The undercarriage was removed on October 29 and on November 10 the fuselage and wings were cut up for scrap metal.
767-277 VH-RME was delivered to Ansett Australia in Melbourne on June 16 1983 after completing its ferry flight from Seattle via Honolulu and Nadi. VH-RME entered service on June 28 ’83 when it operated flight AN8 from Melbourne to Sydney. VH-RME was scheduled on its final service for Ansett Australia on September 10 2001 as flight AN47 from Sydney to Melbourne. At the time of its retirement VH-RME had flown 51,757 hours and completed 36,073 cycles.
BAe 146-200 VH-JJU, which has been stored at Melbourne since April 2002, is being parted out in one of the Ansett hangars

This one was parked right next to the terminal. We literally walked right past it upon getting off our DJ flight en route to the terminal. Typically when aircraft are parked, they are nowhere near the terminal, but out at a remote location.

Seeing it was not ER, the aircraft as probably older than 15 years.

I flew to MEL in August of 2002. Is this the same Ansett 767 that was just parked on the tarmac at that time, Steve? We got off our Virgin Blue flight and we walked right by it on the tarmac en route to the terminal.
