BAE delivers last Avro RJ

BAE Systems’s Regional Aircraft division has finally delivered the last Avro RJ airliner, with the handing over of MSN E2394 to Blue 1 (formerly Air Botnia) of Finland.

The RJ was completed last year (first flight April 26 2002), but was one of four unsold airframes when production wound up. BAE Systems built 390 146/RJ/RJXs, comprising 221 146s, 170 RJs and three RJXs

I think we all were quite surprised when the RJ line was cancelled as other manufactuers seem ok. At least they still produce some jets as the J41 i believe is still in production with a friend of mine working at their military side which is going strong.

Long live British Aircraft Manufacteurs!

Andrewm isn’t the J41 a turboprop? The British Aircraft manufacturing industry is in decline. We no longer produce a jet airliner and most of the military projects are years behind schedule and way over budget. Hardly the success story it once was.

Ah memories of sitting by Hatfields fence at lunchtime watching the prototype 146 (G-SSSH ?) with a long probe on its nose doing test flights. Also the last Hatfield open day and seeing the assembly hall. All gone now. 🙁
