Handley Page Herald Graffitied + some other interesting pics

I was just browsing planepictures and came across a few of these shots. I was very disappointed and frustrated to see how this old Air UK Herald has been treated, dumped and sprayed with lots of graffiti (in Guernsey). A plane like this could have been a great museum piece, and is something that should definitely not be scrapped like this. A few other interesting photos below aswell.

An Air UK Herald as per above featured quite heavily in the opening scene of a classic episode of Minder on Paramount Comedy Channel tonight. Just thought I’d mention it…:D

In fact, as a passenger, the BAe-146 is a wonderful plane: comfortable, quiet, and so funny when it is about to land!

You simply need to look around to know who flies on it for the first time. When the flaps deploy, they catch their armrests 😉

You made me smile Frank!

When I typed that comment I wondered if I was doing the right thing to admit I’d been near a One Four Sick! I thought the flightdeck was very tacky and noted that the aircraft is flown in more of a turboprop manner than as a jet.

Did you enjoy that flight, as a great 146 fan you are? 😀

I’ve sat in the flightdeck of a 146 landing into City. The main points are that the control input for the flare is much more significant, needs to be timed much more precisely and the speed must not be allowed to get slow in the latter stages. The aircraft needs to be pretty draggy to avoid speed build up coming down the steeper profile.

At LCY, they touch like usual. One wheel of the main undercarriage after the other) . And I really don’t know why they do such a fuss of LCY approach. It really doesn’t feel steeper. Of course, everytime i went there, the approach wasn’t over london, but from the coast. Too bad…

Turboprops generally do approach in a nose down attitude…but then the nose will be raised for touchdown. It’s called the flare.

What about the Fokker 50? It approaches nose down, and then there is the even more nose-down london city approach! Does it land with all wheels together? In Antwerp I always see them coming slightly nose down. They toch down with a 1° nose up or so, so the nose immediately follows; but when the weather is a bit bad, things get difficult?

Agreed, that’s no illusion.

No its not an optical illusion. If it were the rear wheels would be touching the shadow of the plane.

I would be rather keen to check the nosewheel area for damage. this sort of thing is generally referred to as wheelbarrowing.

Rather Ironic how the airline name is Contact Air 😀

Do you think they would have had to check for any internal damage to the landing gear after this incident? Becuase I was thinking, presuming no-one else saw it then couldn’t it be a danger?

Just found this. This is how the same Herald, G-BAZJ, should be. Notice the difference?! Long gone are it’s days unfortunately.

And a final one. This looks pretty damn close! I wouldn’t mind being the photographer!

Ok, now for a few others. Surely this can’t be good, touching down front-wheels first?! Isn’t that gonna cause damage to the landing gear?
