Concorde goes on show at Heathrow
A British Airways Concorde is going on display at Heathrow Airport 28 years after its first commercial flight.
Concorde Alpha Bravo will go on show to the public to the north east of the airport near Heathrow’s Visitor Centre.
Captain Mike Bannister, Concorde’s chief pilot, will present the aircraft and its logbook to Mick Temple, the airport’s managing director.
Alpha Bravo took off from London to Bahrain in 1976 and has flown 22,000 hours during her service.
‘An inspiration’
The supersonic aircraft will be towed from British Airways’ hangar at 1500 GMT on Wednesday.
Mr Temple said: “Concorde has played a vital role in the history of Heathrow and it seems only fitting that the airport should be its final resting place.”
The Concorde was the third to be delivered to British Airways in September 1976.
During her service she went supersonic about 6,700 times.
Captain Bannister said: “Over the years millions of people have turned their heads to watch Concorde fly by.
“Perhaps her presence at Heathrow will be an inspiration to those of vision and determination leading, someday, to the creation of the next generation of supersonic aircraft.”

Mike Bannister was also Chief Pilot for some of the BA short-haul fleet (including the A319 / A320 I believe) , and he will be continuing in this role.

Makes you realise how little Concorde actually flew. 22,000hrs in 28 years equals about 785hrs per year. The accountants who run the average UK charter airline like to see the aircraft doing around 4000hrs per year (more if possible – aircraft don’t make money on the ground!)
