This is something which I have noticed lately. Is there a major airline which has withdrew all of its LHR operations or something because one of the worlds most slot congested airports is suddenly having lots of new routes and airlines!!! The ones which are already running or confirmed are:
Air Astana to Almaty – Twice weekly with Boeing 757 – 200s
East African Airways – 5 times weekly to Nairobi and once weekly to Mombasa with Boeing 767 – 300s.
bmi – 5 times Daily to Aberdeen, Daily to Inverness, Daily to Naples (Airbus A319/A320/A321 aircraft)
Helios – Daily to Larnaca with Boeing 737 – 800s.
Air Baltic – 6 times weekly to Riga with Boeing 737 – 500s.
Air Slovakia – twice weekly to Bratislava with Boeing 757 – 200s.
British Airways – to increase frequency on several routes e.g Nairobi from Daily to 10 times weekly.
Add this to the rumors of Virgin Atlantic adding new routes and as you see thats a quite a lot of new services!
Anyone know anything regarding LHR’s slots?

I guess some have come from Sabena/Virgin Express? But that does not account for them all. I was up there for a few hours this afternoon and it was quiet around 2, there were even a couple of biz jet departures so the slots do exist.

there’s often slots available but not often at times of the day that suit major carriers but which may be acceptable to smaller operators..I think also that start-up operators got first pick at any slots that became available for whatever reason.. also a lot of slot-swapping goes on at the twice yearly slot conference – don’t forget you may have a slot at your departure airport but you’ll need a matching one at your destination…. BA will have held on to their concorde slots which they’ll be able to utillise for something else….

Dunno but it’s mates of mine from TCX that are flying the Air Astana aircraft to Almaty.
