The haj flights here are in full swing. Yesterday whilst driving along I caught a glimpse of a B747 (dont know which mark as I saw it briefly between buildings on its approach). I first thought it was KLM as it had a blue upper body but there was only what looked like a small Red Logo on a White Tail.
Anybody got any ideas?

EAL_KING – I don’t know what it represents but I was near the airport when I heard it and then caught sight of it as it passed between 2 buildings. I just saw the tail at an angle but I was actually convinced it was a BA 747.

Thats exactly what it was Tenthije. The tail on that picture is the same tail the 747 had. Funnily enough just after I did my last post I went home for lunch and I saw the Blue 747 going in again at exactly the same time as yesterday. I got a much better look this time but it was some distance away. Theres no doubt its an ex KLM aircraft as it is the KLM royal blue upper fuselage. It looks exactly like the picture you have posted above except for the small Red logo on its (white) tail. Many thanks for your help. I am close to buying a new digital camera so hopefully I will be able to contribute a few photos to the forum soon.

Embarrasment has forced me to add another post before anyone says if this daft old sod can’t tell a BA 747 what is he doing on here I want to stress that it was a momentary glimpse between buildings and I’m wondering if I have the colour sequence of the flags correct as well. I can’t even remember the fuselage colour as I was concentrating on the tail. 😀

ANOTHER ONE!!
Thanks for your help everyone. My first sight of it made me think it was KLM, it was the small Red Symbol on the White Tail that threw me.
Anyway heres another one – Yesterday another 747 was coming in on approach and again I only got a quick glimpse and I thought it was BA. It had what looked like BA livery on the tail but it wasn’t at least I don’t think so – again only a quick glimpse between buildings. It looked like three long flags fluttering on a white tail – a red on top of a blue on top of a red (Maybe it was BA??!!!?? in which case my identification skills are c***) BA flights here though are B777s which arrive at midnight and this was in the afternoon around 3.00pm)

Have to be Korean

No it is not the first service. KLM has been serving them for years with the 743 and since recently the 744. SLM code shares on these flights. SLM will take over 2 (or more?) of the KLM flights and KLM will codeshare with SLM. KLM will continue the other flights.
I’ve read that the 743 will be repainted in full SLM livery.

Thanks for that Peter. Would that be the first direct service between Amsterdam and Suriname? I’m well aware that there are a number of Surinamese in the Netherlands.

Phuket Airlines are from Thailand. The island of Phuket. They fly 2 or 3 ex-KLM 747s and a handful of ex USAirways 732s and I believe also NAMC Y11s.
SLM is Surinaamse Luchtvaart Maatschappij/Surinam Airlines. They fly 2 or 3 MD80s and will get 1 ex-KLM B747 to commence operations between AMS and Suriname.

I’ve never heard of Phuket or SLM. Where are they from?

Possibly Korean?
ONly two operators I know of have Blue upper fuselages that can be mistaken for KLM and they are KLM themselves and Korean
