The Air Transport Users Council (AUC) has found that in the main the difference in fares charged by full service carriers and LoCo airlines is often minimal.
Passengers who book in advance are easily able to whittle away the apparent difference in prices. In some instances some full service carriers are cheaper! The AUC analysed 1,500 fares on nine short haul routes from London and Glasgow to points such as Paris, Venice and Frankfurt after receiving dozens of complaints from passengers. In four out of six comparable advance booking periods BA was found to be cheaper than Ryanair! Booking 13 weeks ahead the BA fare was £69 against RYR with £70. Booking one month ahead cost £76 on BA with RYR at £81. At one weeks notice the gap really widens with BA at £76 and RYR at £81. On a weeks notice the BA fare was £133 and RYR at £178! On a sample flight from London to Glasgow the most expensive fare for someone booking ahead was RYR at £121. For some last minute bookings LoCos can be less expensive than full service carriers but the AUC states that the “cheap deals” often mask expensive and long journeys from isolated airports.

And to think that this carrier has the nerve to charge the less able among us for wheelchairs at airports…Shame on you Ryanair!!!
