News on Air Wales, Aer Arann and Air Berlin

Air Wales

Air Wales has recently started flying from Swansea to Amsterdam (3 times weekly) and will also start the following routes:

Cardiff – Brussels (twice daily from 19/01/04)

The airline is also linking the following airports through non – stop and direct flights from 08/12/03.

Plymouth
Cardiff
Liverpool
Newcastle

I think the Cardiff to Newcastle and Brussels routes could be successful but I’m not sure about the Cardiff to Liverpool and Plymouth routes.

Aer Arann

Aer Arann is to start a 5 times weekly service between Galway and Edinburgh from 19/12/03. An 48seater ATR42 aircraft will be used.

Initially Aer Arann planned to operate a Galway to Glasgow Prestwick service but decided to serve Edinburgh due to the popularity of Edinburgh as a short break destination and with substantial demand for this service in both departure and destination regions.

Air Berlin

Air Berlin is to start a daily London Stansted to Palma de Mallorca route from 19/12/03. The route will be flown by a Boeing 737 – 700. From Palma, Air Berlin will provide connections to Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Malaga and Ibiza. On Wednesdays and Fridays there will also be connections to Almeria, Faro and Jerez de la Frontera.

The decision to fly from London to Palma was taken after Easyjet, the UK-based budget airline, announced that it would be flying from Berlin Schönefeld to destinations including Majorca and Barcelona as from spring 2004. Joachim Hunold, the managing partner of Air Berlin, commented: “If Easyjet wants to visit us in Berlin, then it goes without saying that we will be paying return visits to London.”

I wonder if this will be successful?
