SriLankan Airlines is acquiring seven more aircraft in an ambitious growth plan that will increase flights to existing destinations, open new routes and launch air taxi services within Sri Lanka.
The carrier added two Airbus A340s to its fleet last month and two more of the long range planes are scheduled to arrive in November.
The airline also plans to acquire two additional Airbus A320s and two Cessna Caravan aircraft will join the fleet in November, as it prepares to launch amphibious domestic services. Sri Lankan’s cargo arm also took delivery of its second Antonov AN12 freighter aircraft in October.
The arrival of the A340s signals the launch of a new operating strategy to increase flights to existing destinations. The planes will operate mainly on routes to Europe and the Far East.
When the two A320s are delivered in the near future it will enable expansion of services and opening of new routes in the South Asian region, all of which are in the planning stage.
