Ryanair today confirmed that it was in discussions with the Authorities in the Catalan region in relation to further expansion at Gerona Airport. Ryanair is set to carry almost 1 million passengers through the airport this year and is already planning future expansion.
Confirming the discussions today in Dublin, Ryanair’s Deputy Chief Executive, Michael Cawley said:
“We are pleased to confirm that we are in advance discussions with the Generalitat de Catalunya in relation to further expansion at Gerona Airport. We expect to deliver further substantial growth in passenger numbers there next year. We share the belief of the Generalitat that Girona Airport has the potential to grow to at least 2.5 million passengers.”
So maybe Gerona is going to be the next European base? We shall have to see in a few months time. It’s good to see Ryanair helping small airport’s such as Gerona expand in this way. Ryanair currently serve the following destinations from Gerona:
Frankfurt Hahn – twice daily
London Stansted – 4 times daily
Birmingham – daily
Bournemouth – daily
Milan Bergamo – twice daily
Dublin – twice a week (sat and sun)
Glasgow Prestwick – daily
Brussels Charleroi – daily
