Earlier on this eveing, I was parading outside at my Air Cadet squadron, which is under the ILS for STN and the planes come over at a little over 1000ft. I looked up towards the approach and saw two aircraft lights moving very close together, and started to panick as they were getting really close. I thought that there might be a mid-air collision or something. Then they stopped moving any closer, but remained side by side. Then there was a huge amount of noise and out of the mist came an RAF Tristar being escorted by a Tornado. They followed each other all the way to the airport, then as far as I could tell, the Tristar landed and then the Tornado pulled up and flew away.
It’s not the first time I have seen an RAF Tristar at STN, but is certainly the first time I have seen one being escorted. Does anyone know who or what was so important that this would need to happen, and why was it happeneing in the first place?
