Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone knew of anything I can do for Work Experiance, that has a link or involves commercial aviation.
Please Anything.
Thanks

hi all,

Nice to see you about Keith!

I spent the 2 weeks with Air Atlanta Icelandic at Manchester which was a throughly enjoyable period and played a big part in me getting the job i have now with Emerald in Ops. Keep trying and nagging airlines, and go for the smaller companies – where are you based?

I also did my first one with a smaller helicopter operater, Heli-jet at Coney Park near Leeds/Bradford airport which was great on the R22, B206, MD500E, Allouette II and a Gazelle!

PM if you want a hand

I got work experience with BA a few years back thanks to a friend of mine who flies the 777 with them. I was going to be shadowing a pilot for a week, but five weeks before I was due to start Mr Bin Laden decided to attack America and BA were forced to cancel my placement 🙁

I done my work experience in year 11 of secondary school, 3 years ago.

We done ours in October and had to plan it ourselves. I started to look for a placement at the start of the year (Jan/Feb time) and wrote to British Airways. It took a good 6 weeks to get a reply and they told me that they had to keep them for those being educated locally.

Pathetic.. those who are missing out should just have to go elsewhere!

Hiya,

I would suggest sending a letter and CV to airlines opperating from your local regional airport. I know a couple of guys who have gained work experience via this route. One guy done a week as a dispatcher at EGLL and the other done two weeks with opps at EGCC including a couple of jumpseat flights.

Good Luck

Keith

Contact an airline or aviation based company that you would like to work for during work experience, explain the situation and see what they say. There are many aviation jobs available (at least I knew that from my experience last year), from mechanics to general office work centred on aviation. In July I worked at a local tourist attraction, it was brilliant. I was slightly jealous of my friends who were able to get free rides in aircraft although I thoroughly enjoyed me own experience.

Hi Luke,

I did my work experience in july for two weeks and as much as I would have loved to been able to work for an airline or at an airport it was’nt to be. I ended up working for Hoseasons at their travel centre which was at least as close as I could get to travel, i was able to speak to people from many airlines requiring new fllight prices for next years brochures. Summing it up unless you have connections your better of at a travel agents if you still want some euphoria of airlines.

I had no luck whatsoever with work experience in aviation in the London area. A friend of mine whos Dad fly’s for BA just managed to scrape a position at LHR, so there isn’t much hope for us normal folk!

I did my work experience with BMI, spent a week at EMA with them working on the engines of the ‘Pocket Rocket’ (DC-9 in case you were wondering:) ) and also spent some time on the ramp during which time I was allowed on board an F-27 for an engine test, great fun!

Regards, Dazza.

Not sure what you’re asking about specifically. I mean, are you currently working and would like to do something in your line of work related to aviation?

If you’re talking about changing the line of work, there are numerous options: ranging all the way from cockpit/cabin crew jobs to ticket/ramp agent to baggage handler/catering position that would put you up close and personal with an airliner…

Luke, Until 2yrs ago I worked for a long time at Stansted Airport and our company used to often take on work experience people for 2 to 3 weeks, so it can be done. I don’t know if new regs on security might now rule this kind of thing out. Suggest looking at your nearest commercial (or private) airfield and seeing whats about. Our company was usually contacted by local schools and colleges with a view to placing people with us, maybe this would be a good way to start. At least three people that I can remember ended up joining us full time a bit later on from their work experience time. Good Luck mate….aviation is a good career!
