How to get from Glasgow to Prestwick

Unfortunately you won’t find many local transport operators doing Ryanair any favours and Prestwick isn’t Glasgow’s local airport, which is why there’s not much direct surface transport available at that time of the morning. 🙁 If you decide to stay in Ayr you’ll get a taxi cheaply as it’s only a few miles away literally.

I am afraid I really have to stick with the taxi as there isn’t even a way to access PIK from Ayr or Kilmarnock by public transport before 6.30. I am completely aware of the fact where the airport is located but I have never been to a city where there is no public transport to the “local” airport Ryanair operates some 80-180 kms away :-). There is always a shuttle bus leaving at hours like 4.30, 5.00 in the morning for the first flights out of such airports. Looks like public transport in the UK is really that worse as everybody in Continental Europe thinks.

Citylink and Stagecoach are the bus companies serving Prestwick on the Glasgow – Ayr route. I’d have thought you could take a train earlier than that unless it’s a Sunday departure mind you.

You could stay the night in Prestwick or nearby Ayr, it’s off season and cheap just now. A Taxi to Prestwick will cost you around £30-£40 I’d have said.

You could walk – that’s better for you and the environment. Just make sure you set out the night before… and take a torch. 😀
