Hello,
I was out and about today and came across Farnborough Airport in Hampshire. It’s not very spectator friendly and is very well concealed behind trees and fences.
However, the one peek I did get at the airfield was a good one. I saw a US Airways Boeing 717(??) and even had the car turned around to confirm it.
But why is an American made aircraft for an American airline, sat on the apron at Farnborough?
Also, is it a 717?

Confusing! It will probably appear on the UK register shortly to simplify things I hope!

Sorry I got the number wrong.
It was N865US.

Not 856US, that was on GFAMH (I think they changed it to FAMH anyway) before it was re-regd last week.

The 3rd F100 is in Norwich, at the airport there. Its still in full US Airways titles and still carries a US reg Number — N856US

Almost right tenthije:
They are indeed Fokker 100’s and they have been at Farnborough for several months now. They are not for Germania however, but are remaining at EGLF for a private operator, and I think there will be 3 in total. I’m sure Rob will tell you more when he sees this post though!
T5, the best place to view the planes is on the A323, as you are driving along it you come to a very tight S-Bend, and on the canal side (The side of the airport) there is a small iron bridge. If you cross that and park up next to the fence then you get a very good view of all the ramps there, and usualy the best views of the BBJ’s and other big things.

Ahh, thanks for that.
Since it was quite so far away, identifying it wasn’t easy! :p

No they aren’t 717s (US does not have any). They are F100s and they are there for conversion.
US has recently retired their entire fleet of F100s and most of them have already been sold to mostly European carriers. Amongst others Germania. Farnborough will see more of them, either as a fuel/tech stop or for conversion. New paint, interior etc.
