ACARS and Flight tracking

hello everyone! im back after successfully resitting my exams, and have been tinkering with a few ACARS monitoring programs to see what is up and around me… any of you do the same?
i’ve also used AirNav suite, but it seems like an OK program (certainly not worth the 50 pounds they want for it)…
anyways, the main point of this thread was to see if any of u guys do any ACARS monitoring, and to get a discussion started along this point…
i’ll post my flight reports to/from Gatwick in another post…

if u have an (airband)scanner, you cna simply tune in to your local ACARS frequency, connect it to your sound card with a simple audio cable, and download from a host of different programs…
one of the best ones is AirNav ACARS decoder, which gives u 30 free day’s worth of trying it oput before u buy it (im still in this 30 day period)… couple it with posfix and AirNav suite, and ull get some OK results

I use other peoples reports to tie up my overflights. I don’t have ACARS myself as I need to go out to see the overflights as my flat just faces a line of trees. You could get a hand held ACARS at one time, but they seem to have dissapeared.
I have used the RED1 flight tracker before but as with all of them they only cover US and transatlantic flights. I use it mainly for biz jets inbound to Farnborough, but did use it while on holiday in Barbados to check to see what was due that day and when to look up from the pool!
