Jet2.com plans to soar above the competition!
Jet2.com announces the arrival of 2 more aircraft at Leeds Bradford and focuses on a bright future!
Jet2.com today, 12th Sept, announced that it will add two additional aircraft to its fleet of four aircraft, which are currently based at Leeds Bradford Airport. The first of these aircraft will arrive as early as October 2003 and will be followed by a Sixth aircraft in January 2004.
Philip Meeson, the boss of Jet2.com said “We are delighted that we are the only low cost airline providing daily flights from Leeds Bradford Airport to European winter sun, ski and city destinations, including Spain, The Algarve, Geneva and Prague. We are confident we can fill any void that operators such as Planetair may create by their absence and we will continue to offer people from the region accessible and low cost air travel.
With the delivery of two new aircraft we are able to plan and look forward to Summer 2004 and will shortly announce how we will use these aircraft to increase frequency to popular leisure and business destinations. We are currently planning to increase the number of flights to Alicante, Malaga, Palma and Faro to meet the exceptional demand we have already experienced.”
Jet2.com will be celebrating its first birthday on 23rd October and we plan to announce more details of our Summer 2004 schedule on this date – so put this date in your diary now

Wouldn’t Helios be considered low cost?

Planetair have the TFS flight on a Friday using an LTE Aircraft and thats the only one they are keeping going as the Alicante,Malaga and Faro flights have not been successful as the TFS flight. (All right I know Planetair charter other airlines Aircraft but it proves it can be successful)
Also surely if Lo/Cos flew LCA,TFS etc they could put the prices up a bit to make up the fact its a long round trip.

i to be honest i haven’t heard much of it on the rumour lists – even Zaragota seems to be higher than any domestic run (bar Belfast) from what i have heard

Monarch Scheduled have been flying LTN to TFS for years…..and it is a very popular route!

however i am pritty sure that on this principle during the summer if a lo-co decided to fly out of say Leeds at 10pm on a Sat evening to Tenerife to arrive there at 2.15am, return at 3.30am to arrive at Leeds for 7.45am there would be a market, as the charters make it work, why not lo-co?
It will be inteeresting to see how Now go on on the Luton – TFS run.
Personally i would like to see Jet2 ofer LBA a second London link, possably to Stansted (1x Daily) or even Gatwick (2x Daily) as a primary domestic route

There are no lo-co flights to Cyprus or the Canaries because low fares airlines work on the intensive high utilization of their fleets. A trip to Cyprus would take upwards of 9 hours for a return flight with a maximum of around 320 passengers whereas the aircraft could have flown between London and Edinburgh 4 times in that time taking over 1,200 passengers.
Longer routes just aren’t profitable for Low cost carriers generally, however easyJet do fly to Athens which is a four hour flight.

Why are there so few lo-co flights to the Canaries or Cyprus?
If Larnaca/Tenerife was on offer from someone; I’m sure it would be a popular route.

i’d say the routes they propose will be more like full time routes such as the rumoured Belfast in the main as this stability will keep the aircraft running all year without seasonal variation, obviously some routes will be generated for the winter season only (such as a posssable ski-run), I may also see a more buisness orientated route, preferably not cologne (as i’m hoping a german carrier may pick up a 1x daily run on here) as i see Leeds being more popular than the likes of Prestwick could be to some of these carriers!
Only time will tell!

Yes their fleet will be rather under-utilised. While three new flights to Prague, Faro and Geneva may take up some of the reductions in capacity they will not account for destinations like Alicante or Barcelona where there has been quite a drop in frequency or Nice and Bergamo, which suggest through loads that they could be dropped. To me it seems rational if they have spare capacity then they launch some new destinations with these new aircraft to destinations that would seemingly do well in the middle of winter rather than having aircraft laying about.

Very good news for Jet2, I have seen a few of there load factors and they seem to be doing very well on certain services. They do seem to be making use of their available capacity but can Leeds/Bradford hold this?I reckon that you will probably see a few more high rotation flights such as Belfast etc in the future. It would seem logical if you were basing more aircraft at the airport and recruiting more cabin crew.
My thought exactly SAAB on the rotation front. Belfast does seem to be a prime candidate – i would say 2x daily for the moment. Knock has been floating about, perhaps a 2 or 3x weekly to start with – along with Salzberg and Zaragota which come up weekly on forums!
For the winter they have a rather underutilised fleet at the moment. Oct 23rd will be an interesting day!

I concur, good luck to them. This airline isn’t in ya face as much as the orange lot and Ryanair.
