I was watching one of those History Channel UFO shows where they showed an America West jet encounter a UFO in flight and they ended up calling ATC. ATC phoned the Air Force and the responce was predictable. Any one know of any other interesting tales? I think there was an article in Air & Space many years ago that profiled some wierd incidents including one with a JAL 747.

When we flew to the US back in April this year, I was lucky enough to see a pair of B-2 Spirit bombers fly underneath our 777 at about 60 degrees of angle to our direction of travel. They were moving pretty fast but I spent about the next half an hour watching them – you could see the dots for a good while and the contrails (black and sooty ones) for ages.
I can imagine how other things might appear across long expanses of sky after seeing those.

Long duty day = seeing things
I’ve seen some military flights that don’t show up on our equipment or ATC’s (at least not any sector that we’d talk to). They’ll be buzzing along at 50,000+ feet and you can see them for miles as the air is so thin at altitude. Flying along the southern Canadian border I watched one aircraft to our north pass us like we were standing still. No idea what it was but he was moving.
