“Where on the computer do i find preferences”

Oops I assumed you were having problems with IE or your Internet browser.

Could you post a screenshot of the screen with the red crosses on it. (probably above your arrow keys you should find a key called “Print Screen”. Make sure the red crosses that are the problem are visible and then press the Print Screen button once. Now open a graphics program, like Paint and select paste from the edit menu (depending upon the program you may need to create a new blank document).
Save this screenshot and try and post it here.

If it is too big email it to me and I will resize it and post it here.

(My email is gbrookes#clear.net.nz …to prevent spammers I have replaced the @ with a #… change it back and use that address.)

On a similar computer note, does anyone know if you can buy a CD burner that you don’t have to fit into the PC tower ? I.E. a stand alone model that’s connects through a USB port that you can also connect to a hi-fi source for recording ?

The square with the red x means the images are not downloading. Check you preferences to make sure you have not disabled images in web pages.
It might also happen if you are viewing webpages offline and the images that are supposed to be on the page haven’t been downloaded.
If you have a slow connection a page with a lot of images might fail to download fully so that a lot of the images might have red crosses. To veiw the images just right click on the red cross and choose “show image”. This should download that particular image. If it doesn’t then the problem might be at the other end… they have moved their images and the connection (link) has been broken. In which case just email the webmaster and make them aware of that fact.

If you use Internet Explorer got to internet options in the tool menu and click on the advanced link and scroll down to multimedia and make sure show pictures is checked.

Make sure you have an uptodate virus checker too though… and make sure you regularly update its signature files as well.
