Aviodrome's 100 years of flight, many pics

Today I have been to Lelystad for the Aviodrome’s 100 years of flight celebration. Someone there said that the new aviodrome will open sometime November, though an exact date could not be given just yet. The old aviodome at Amsterdam has still not been sold. It looks like it will have to be scrapped. In place of it there will be another hotel.

I’ve got 16 pics to upload. Hope you don’t mind! 😀

First, regular in Holland, the Duke of Brabant Air Force’s B25 Mitchell.

Photo 14/16 is deffinatly not a Piper Cup!! It is an Auster Mk5 Series J1N Autocrat. That is an Auster J1 Autocrat (Normally with a Cirrus Minor II) fitted with a Gipsy Mayjor.

Peter top notch work there mate. Very nice shots indeed. I saw that Martins Air Charter for my first time this year at BQH show, back in June, and ever since its become one of my fave to see.

Cheers Peter. 🙂

Last but not least, some spray plane. I do not know what it is or who owns it. Is has an Angolan flag and registration so it is quite far from home. It looks like the tail wheel is missing the tyre!

If anyone can give me some info on this plane (who owns it, the type, what it is doing here) I’d love to hear!

The Fokker 50 prototype will also be going to the Aviodrome museum to act as a gateguard. The F50 proto was merely a converted F27, new engines and cockpit basically. This can be clearly seen at the fuselage where the old window arrangement was still used. Most of the windows are stickers!

At some angles every plane can look big, this would be one of them. A small piper cub.

A more succesful Fokker training aircraft. This plane, the S.11 was sold to many countries including the Netherlands (duh), Brazil and Israel.

Fokker Machtrainer. This was the first jet trainer to be designed as such from the outset. Up till that day all jettrainers were converted fighters. This plane was not succesful at all, only a handfull where sold only to the RNlAF, I believe. This was because of the large US surplusses that where sold or even donated at bargain rates.

The DDA also showed up today, they brought with them the Martinair DC-3. On the aviodrome premises it was also possible to see the C-54 (DC-4) PH-DDY (I think). This one is not flyworthy and will be used as a gate guard. At the moment it is completely stripped naked, all paint has been removed. It has no tail and the end of the wings (from the outer engines onwards) are not yet attached either.

A Texan/Harvard, the colours are from the RAF but it has a Dutch registration. It surely beats all the yellow harvards I had seen up till now. It says “El Alamein” on the nose, but I suspect this plane has not been there.

No airshow can be complete without a Mustang or a spit. We did not get a spit at Lelystad, but the damned yankee duly showed up.

Same angle, but now the DC-2. Again starting the engine and leaving an even larger smoke screen.

Air Atlantic DC-6 G-APSA. At the end of the day this plane made a fly by with the DC-2, a JU-52, the Beech Twin pictured before and a few Harvards/Texans. Unfortunately the formation was quite loose and high so I did not get any good shots of it.

The odd looking Avanti, I quite like it but I have noticed that opinions vary quite a lot at the airshow. A lot of people just think it is ugly, not to mention strange!
