New FlyBe Route

FlyBE. to launch Edinburgh-Southampton from 26 October

FlyBE., the UK’s fastest expanding airline, will add twice-daily flights to Southampton to its low fares network from Edinburgh from 26 October. Fares go on sale today from just £19 on http://www.flybe.com.
”FlyBE. has a strong presence in Scotland and it was always our intention to add flights to our Southampton base to complement our existing Scottish services,” said General Manager Market Development John Brayford. “Southampton is a thriving central southern airport and offers a realistic alternative to the London airports for business and leisure travellers from Scotland. We are confident these new services will be very popular, enabling passengers to enjoy some genuine low fares on the route for the first time.”

Weekday flights will depart Edinburgh at 1025hrs and 1925hrs and leave Southampton at 1210hrs and 1740hrs. FlyBE. will operate its new, quiet and environmentally friendly Bombardier Q400s on the route.

In its winter schedule, FlyBE. is offering 12 scheduled destinations from Edinburgh – Birmingham, Cork, Exeter, Guernsey, Jersey, London City Airport, Milan (Bergamo), New York (Newark), Paris Charles de Gaulle, Shannon, Southampton and Toulouse.

The Newark flights are indeed a code-share with Continental. Passengers travelling from Belfast City, Jersey and Guernsey have the ability to connect on to Continental flights through Flybe. with the same ticket. I think this is also the same with Delta and Air France.

All 146’s should be dispatched to NY. They’ll get about a third of the way accross and then run out of fuel and ditch. End of 146 problem. QED. Don’t know why I didn’t think of that! I wonder if they could pursuade some ATP’s to go?

Martin.

They’re going to use the new Dash 8 400’s as airborne fuel tankers to refuel the 146’s in flight. A nice long fuel tank the length of the cabin, that’;s why they made them that shape, so the fuel tanks fitted. The will use a single hose and drogue unit under the tail. Simple.

You know, I think it might catch on.

Yep that’s right…I’d love to see a Bae 146 make it accross the Atlantic! 🙂
