In the October issue of Airliner World is a 40-page supplement on Low-Cost airlines. Here is a sneak preview of the supplement’s cover and general layout.

Actually, if you want an academic look at the ops of LCCs, a good book (though rather expensive) is Thomas Lawton’s “Cleared for take-off” available from Amazon (link below).
In case you’re wondering, I got my local library to purchase it. 😎

I hope the webmaster won’t kill me off for this! 😀 😮

Hi,
I was going to get that book before I went on my holiday, I’m glad I didn’t!
Nationwide Air :p

Yeah, I was talking about the book “No Frills, the truth behind the low-cost revolution in the skies”.
I haven’t read the new AW yet, I have got it but only had time to quickly browse through it. Looks very impressive indeed!

I read the book and was kind a dissappointed by it.
It does not really tell a lot of things we do not know, or that can not be found out with a 10 minutes google search. It has a lot of anecdotes (sp?) from the writer who seems to have had a good time when in the business.
If you want to know why low costs are succesful and the traditional airlines are less so, I suggest a search on a.net or this message board. You will get the same information without the writer telling how he got the information (I went to the island of *** to meet Sir Freddie Laker. I arrived at the airport and looked for my ride….. etc etc etc) or the complete life story of Sir Laker (he was born…. etc etc etc).
Its an interesting bedtime read, but don’t expect to base your dissertation on this book!

Got mine today and Aircraft Illustrated too. Great supplement and I might buy the book too.
In AI there’s a good 757 feature including a centre page cutaway of the 757-200.

Hi,
Im looking forward to the next issue with the Astraeus feature.
I wish Airliner World could have put the Astraeus article in the July edition, before I flew with them!

Yes it is very good. I think I shall become a regular reader of Airliner World these days. I got my copy from the Flypast enclosure at Duxford last Sunday.

Why do they never have it on sale on the date announced in the previous issue. I took a walk into the city centre yesterday to buy a copy as per the previous issue saying “The 10th” and they didn’t have it in.
What a pain !:D

I’ve just had time to flick through the supplement – looks good.
Perhaps future supplements might come as separate ‘booklets’ instead of being stapled into the magazine? I think I would prefer this, as it would be convenient for reference purposes, and I don’t like ripping out parts from the main magazine. In such cases, newsagent copies might be wrapped, as is the case with the occasional Flight International.
Just a thought, suppose it depends on what others think!
Great to hear about a separate news section for low-cost airlines!
Keep up the great work, mind the grammatical errors though! 😀
