Wednesday, August 20, 2003 (New Delhi):
The Delhi airport was put on high alert this afternoon following a hijack alarm from a Srinagar-bound plane. But this turned out to be a false alarm.
Civil Aviation Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy says there will be an inquiry into whether the false hijack alarm was because of pilot error or a mechanical fault.
All passengers were brought out safely and later re-seated.

Pilot has been given the clean on this….they say its a mechanical fault. Irony is this happened only on the flight to Srinagar….thats Kashmir!

That sounds like the pilots accidentally selected the hijack code on their transponder which automatically triggers a warning on the controllers radar screen.
