Hot. hot. hot !

It’s set to be the hottest day since records began in the UK today. And typically the transport system is grinding to a halt at the first hint of extreme weather. (well the trains are anyway). I’m just wondering if there are any hot weather related issues that might give rise to problems at our airports ?

Yeah, of the 16 clubs in the top two leagues, 7 are from the Lake Geneva Area (3 in Geneva, 1 in Nyon and 3 in Lausanne), mainly staffed by French players, and only three of the other 9 are in the non french speaking areas (Basel and Zürich with all the expats, and Lugano, with Italians).

We had some great thunder storms on Tuesday night. I was filming the Rangers V Arsenal friendly at Ibrox at the time. Nice to see those gers players jump ! 😀

The hottest ever temp in the UK is 37.1C, yesterday it got up to 34.4 here in Oxford, apprently we’re in for even hotter weather on Saturday.

It doesn’t seem to have affected the operations at Brize Norton or Kidlington though.

I know thats all its done down here over the last few days, hot and hazy, so you cant see a thing in the sky.

And it looks as if though rain and thunderstorms are set for Saturday… they bloody well would be!

Have a good day anyhow Ren. 🙂

Jersey Airport reached the highest temperature in the UK yesterday at 34.8C although it was unofficial. Guernsey recorded its highest temperature on record, which is pretty good.

It’s unlikely now, since it is 4:20pm, but if the temperature can get up to 37C (about 104F), it will officially be the hottest day since records began!

It’s a record 35 degrees in London today, by UK standards that’s hot.

It only takes a few degrees variation from the seasonal norm for the UK transport system to give up the ghost and shut down. In winter it’s always too cold for the trains to run for some reason and now that it’s hot… guess what ? it’s too hot for the trains to run !

What’s your definition of hot in the UK? I haven’t heard of an airport delaying operations due to heat here in the US before. The worst was landing at an airport where the reported temperature was 38 degrees C (100 degrees F). The temperature on the ramp had to be 41-42 degrees. It was HOT. Thankfully this summer hasn’t been to hot here with temperatures no higher than 32 C for the most part.

Oh and that’s the Autumn excuse for late trains – leaves on the line.

So if you want to go by train, go in Spring, you’re less likely to get delayed by something silly.

They’ll be saying the leaves on the tracks are too hot or something like that next. 😀

This is no doubt one day where British holidaymakers won’t want to leave the country – it’s scorching outside and possibly even hotter than the place where they are going to!

As for the trains, they fear the heat may “crack” the railway lines. It seems that no weather is perfect for our railways. In March, I had to sit on a freezing cold train at a train station for nearly an hour because the lines ahead were frozen.

Is it also true that General Electric engines are more efficient in warm air than Rolls Royce. There was something in the Cargolux article in AW last month that alluded to that point ?
