All of you seem to have considerable knowledge of the current a/c pros and cons. India needs a fleet of around 4 NEACP (national airborne emergency command post) aircraft in the 2010ish timeframe to take aloft the leadership during times of crises and also to be used for the longer foreign tours.
The req:
1. space for tactical comm consoles (need not be as elaborate as AF1)
2. VIP seating for 30 people (at a level equal or better than first class)
4. extra restrooms and a couple small conf rooms and a bedroom for the Great Leader (of the time)
5. Enough fuel for 15 hrs of continuous flight at economical speed and 30kft.
6. Rest area for additional two sets of pilots and extra stewardesses.
7. Economy seating in back for 50 journalist / hanger-on types on foreign tours
8. Rest area for the tactical comm operators.
9. Should have atleast 2 engine options among (GE,PW,RR). RR (non-US) will be preferred vendor.
10. Provision can be made for extra fuel tanks in the capacious cargo hold .
If more than one AC version satisfies then cheapest one to buy and operate wins.
choose well and wisely. the fate of a billion people depends on you 😉

Well in that case a B767 or even a B777 isint a bad choice. But personaly i dont think they need any of thses.

the 340 has many models. which would be ideal ? If Jiang can use a 767, I think the newer A330 models and B777 should also be in contention.

BBJ – boeing business jet ? Sorry no can do. its too small even without the 50 additional staffers.
China for example has taken delivery of a luxury B767 for jiang zemin. they removed all the CIA bugs before using it.

Well they dont need anything such as the Air Force 1…….. converted and configured BBJs should suite them.
