If LGW is landing on 08R runway and you want to get close for photos etc, I go to the layby before BCP car parks entrance and walk up. Your can lean on a five bar gate and watch the landings coming down the approach. If you try to park along there, regular police patrols will move you on.

Its sad to think that at one time you could walk out on top of the three piers at the south terminal and the left hand pier had a cafe you could access by a walkway off the pier. The terrace at Edinburgh has been closed for a while now as well. I think spotters in the UK get a real raw deal when you look at some airports on the continent.

The viewing area is on the South Terminal roof accessed from inside the building far right corner as you enter from the power walkway. You can only see the stands inside the piers on the South Terminal and the satellite. There are arrival / departure monitors up there.

The terminal roof area (can’t remember if it’s North or South) is pretty good and has an aviation shop too.
