Here’s the same SP on its takeoff roll….although the picture quality is not great, you can more or less get a feeling of how much of a “pocket 747” the SP really is

Apparently there’s been a Saudi BBJ parked outside Jet for just over a month, so that’ll be what I saw.
not nearly as exciting as an SP, is it? 😡

I actually saw a Saudi tailplane parked up behind Swiss HQ whilst I was driving around BSL earlier. Unfortunately, that was all I could see of the aircraft, as there was a hangar in the way, and there was nowhere to park, either.
I’m assuming it was stopped next door for Maintenance (at Jet Aviation)? Will see if I can find out any other details, and maybe try to get back over there for a pic tomorrow.

you are completely right in that the date (sorry, i know it as damascus) palm and swords are national symbols of Saudi Arabia
“The date palm tree represents vitality and growth.
The crossed swords symbolize justice and strength rooted in faith” (taken from the-saudi.net)
When taken together, it is usually interpreted as i said before.
However, good eye noting the Crescent, as i had failed to do this, and i am sure that they have used this as you said…

Good interpretation. I had figured that the swords and the date palm were the national emblem of Saudi Arabia and the crescent moon being a hallmark of Islam, they were just creating a brand image using these icons.

the tail is a damascus tree crossed by two swords. it means “no prosperity without justice”

I think this is an exciting colour scheme which works extremely well. The pale yellow looks good with the blue and white, producing a nice, subtle effect. It’s the tail that baffles me -what is the significance of what we are seeing?

thanks for the comments…..it’s interesting to notice that in the Saudia website, the drawings of their airplanes show a reversed colour scheme: white on top, and (sand??yellow??) on the bottom, which (at least on the website) looks REALLY good

Nice Pics. I like the tail colours of Saudi but not sure about the main body

So what… there one of the best! Cheers for the pics mate. Their very nice.
As for the engine cowlings… Their just replacement ones used from other aircraft, usually because the actual ones were damaged etc.

and yes, i know, they are all Saudia planes……what can i say? Good colour scheme + frequent visits make for great picture opportunities 🙂

and here’s your typical 743/4…one of the things i noticed about this airplane are the unusual engine cowlings….can anyone enlighten me as to why they look “patched up”….normally u might think shabby maintenace or something, but it really wouldnt be like them to let this airplane show up as SV003 being a royal flight….their planes are normally spotless

and here’s yet another SP, this one about to land
