Past the 100

well, i just noticed that i passed my 100th post, so here goes the customary picture (taken by me): about 3 weeks ago on the morning of my bday, a good friend of mine who works in the cargo sector sent me an SMS at 6.45 telling me to bike down to the airport, because he was working on an interesting plane….heres what it was HZ-AIF

Congratulations and keep up the good posting!

Nice photos. Always liked the Saudi Arabian colour scheme, looks great on the 777 but not so good on the 747SP, what a dreadful 747 variant!

Kev depending on what flights come into LHR next Saturday… you should see at least one SP.

Mmmmm, apparently not. It’s been about 20 years since I last saw an SP and it just never entered my head.

theplane.

Please post more. My aircraft recognition skills need all the help they can get.

i must admit that the SP looks weird (to say the least), but no, i hardly know how to resize and crop in photoshop, let alone join two 747s 😀 i have a few other pictures with it (if anyone wants me to post them), and i can never decide whether it’s a nice plane to look at or not…and yes, unusually enough, the GVA authorities have been a little lax on cutting the grass :p

and for those of you who like this airplane (i have mixed feelings about it), here’s what followed the SP out….however, it was the normal scheduled flight, and not a royal flight like the SPs…..sometimes, i think GVA would best fit into the middle east, since there are times whene there are more Arabic airplanes than Swiss ones…and it’s gonna get even worse with SWISSs cutbacks

The plane.

I’ll be honest, I thought you’d stuck two 747’s together rather badly in photoshop. Never occurred to me that it might be an SP. Still looks like it force-landed in a wheatfield.

for the conspiracy theorists out there, Andy was right! It IS due to oversharpening (so i was feeling a little lazy and let Photoshop do an AutoLevels for me)…heres the original, unsharpened and cropped 😀

It is one of the few, awful 747 SPs… Should I say “not-totally-grown-up 747”?

The bulge is because they shortened the fuselage too much, and they could not get a sleek line, hence the bulge…

Great pic, great scheme, awful plane.

No Kev its only SP’s. I got a 747SP model the other day and it has this shape… thought the other 747’s I have, the 200 and 400’s dont have this shape.

I think Kabir and VLM Flyer are right about the bulging appearance of the fuselage before the tail section. Do 747’s have that Coke bottle shape at the tail? I can’t put my finger on it but it just looks wrong somehow.

Congrats on the milestone matey. Nice pic too.

I think that the pictures looks a little on the weird side due to a slight over sharppening.
