If the politicians gave a damn we’d still have a vibrant UK aircraft manufacturing industry.

Not always Hand.
The UK bought some Longbow Apaches, but apparently they are useless. The government was against them on cost grounds, but the Army pressurised the decision because “they wanted a gucci helicopter”.

Because when a governement looks for a new plane contract , it’s abaout everything but performance.
It’s about politics , influence , big $$, commissions etc….
Eventually the AirForce cares about features , politicians don’t give a damn sh*t !!

No offence but why would any nation buy a Rafale instead of an F-15 which is by far a superior product, combat tested and still undefeated!!!!!!!!!

boeing will use levers in US Govt to retain japanese market. like the levers they pushed to obtain F15K contract in Korea over rafale.
I dont think Boeing is going to last in commercial aviation though.

This plane for me is like the A340-600, I think airlines should have very large font on the sides stating the carriers name. Otherwise, it’s going to look a bit odd. I really like the mock-ups though.

I don’t think BA will order the A380 – well not in the next 10-12 years at least. a couple of years ago, it was rumoured that they were seriously considering the aircraft, but they decided to stick with the 777.
how about the low cost airlines i.e. Southwest, or Ryanair?
i don’t any of the US majors will order the aircraft just yet – what with all their financial problems
thanks,
adam 🙂

I feel this is a task for Matt Murray to come up with some livery mockups for us to enjoy. 😀

Korean and Malaysian have placed orders for the 380.
By: MSR777 - 31st July 2003 at 20:42
Hasn’t Korean Airlines just ordered some or are they through ILFC?

Come to think of it i dont think JAL will get A380s…….there economy is already jittery and if they order A380s there US economic assistant might get disrupted.

I agree JAL, and eventually AC (not for a good while though), but I also thing that NW will be in line. They are the largest operator into Asia (outside of Asian carriers) are they not?
I could see BA getting on board if for no other reason that slot restraints at Heathrow, especially in light of the hoopla that Branson is making about his.
Who has ordered to date? I’m starting to lose track.

imagine a metallic AA body a380:D

I don’t agree about British Airways operating the A380, I think only a few routes would justify the aircraft such as Asia and the Middle East. The Trans-Atlantic market is just too saturated with even the 747-400 not becoming a viable option with airlines operating with priority on frequency rather than capacity. Though I don’t think they could keep them away forever, if the rate is good enough then it would be inevitable that British Airways would take the aircraft. Just look at slot constraints at Heathrow and how the A380 could affect them. At the end of the day no major airline will be able to ignore the aircraft.
Hand, it wouldn’t surprise me with all that extra capacity they will be placing on the new Bournemouth route. Might as well fly an unsustainable route in style 😉

yes JAL….they can order A380s and get rid of there B747 Classic fleet.

Japan Airlines, All Nippon, Asiana.

Yes mongu….I forgot Air Canada and maybe a US order is more in the medium term as well. I don’t know what you think but I have a feeling that the BA total won’t be huge.
