I’ve just booked my trip to Dresden with Lufthansa for the weekend after next. Amazingly there still aren’t any direct connections to Dresden! As a result I’m flying via Munich which I’m quite glad about as it mean I’m going to be traveling through the new terminal there.
Furthermore I’m going to be going on my first CRJ flights! On the way out I’ll be on a CRJ100 between Munich and Dresden and on the return leg I’ll be on a CRJ700. Between Heathrow and Munich I’ll be on a A320 and A321 respectively.
Having never been to Munich before can anyone tell me if there are any good places to get photos airside. As I’m only connecting I won’t be able to actually go landside.
Also has anyone ever flown on CRJ’s before? Are they comfortable? The only story I’ve ever heard of a CRJ experience from anyone I know was a family member who was flying over in a hurry from Dresden last year to get back to England to see an ill relative. His experience was not great, they had to turn back to Cologne after engine trouble. This coupled together with the fact that he isn’t a great flyer and that his mother was dying didn’t make for a great experience and so he was wishing my luck on this flight!
Anyway I’ll get as many photos as I can. Dresden really is Air Berlin country with a few Eurowings flights and the odd Lufthansa service to the bigger cities.
It’s also got a beautiful new terminal which has a great calming effect. I believe British Midland used to have a direct connection to Dresden from London in the mid-nineties, does anyone know if this was the case?

But surely they’re not as forgiving towards Scumdrie United?
Team stealers. 😉
(and yes, no one else will understand that…)

Fair Points, the people of Clydebank have similar philosophical views. Well a few anyway.

Hmmm… Arthur “Bomber” Harris might have something to do with that ?
Suprisingly most Dresdeners have a forgive and forget attitude towards what happened in WW2. In fact one Dresden taxi driver I spoke to said ‘we deserved it’, which I thought was slightly extreme.
Links between the UK and Dresden are very strong these days, in fact our government has given quite a lot of money towards the rebuilding of the city, which is still taking place.
Dresden is set to become the new Prague as a great weekend break destination by 2006 when the city rebuilding is finished. My father used to live in Prague and then moved to Dresden so I have a lot of experience of both cities.
Still, I find it suprising the there are no direct air links.

I dunno if they used to, but BD now no longer fly to Germany at all, all their flights to Germany are codeshare flights with LH (who, after all, own 40% (?) of them), and have been for at least the last 5 years.
As for the new terminal at MUC, I dunno what the script is re viewing, but the concourse is about a mile long, so there must be space somewhere for viewing.
Haven’t flow on a CRJ, but I don’t recall having heard anything bad about them.
