Bmi Baby pulls out of Glasgow Airport.

Bmi Baby is moving it’s Glasgow-Cardiff service to Prestwick, citing BAA’s high airport charges as the main reason.

Another typical move by a GLA customer where BAA landing charges are the highest in the UK.

The good news is that Bmibaby have applied to fly MAN-JER for the winter season as the third daily route for the airline to the island. I doubt there will be any pullout now as had been worring me.

Whats the do with media agencies and pics from the net – do they just have to credit the photographer or pay him/her for the work?

Thats entirely up to the photographer, as you took the photo you hold the copyright.
A lot of the time it depends on what they use it for, a non commercial project and I’d usually give it for free as long as a credit is given, but any commercial project would have to pay a fee.

Just got a mail back and Aaron and he knows nothing about the picture being used, think you’ll agree its definately the shot I’ve posted below.

BMI Baby have applied for a MAN-JER licence. I read the CAA licence applications newletter every week and noticed it today.

I am wondering if Jersey will be discontinued if they are pulling out of Glasgow because of the landing fees. Bmibaby has threatened to pullout of the island for the same reasons.

The BBC pays an annual blanket agreement for all copyrighted, musical and published works to the appropriate bodies. I can’t speak for other broadcasters though.

a bit of a poor do by GLA. This type of inncident could be a major factor in airlines who can’t choose between EDI and GLA going for the lowest fees – some of the American services spring to mind for leisure travellers, and perhaps charters if Pax are will ing to travel for a lower suppliment?

Interesting move, landing charges must be much higher at GLA, just hope baby don’t start doing a Ryanair with any other destinations though.

Also about the article, the pic is an a.net image by an EMA local Aaron Lupton, hope its been used with permission as I can’t see a credit! Hope the BBC are not following a certain Sunday newspaper in printing another a.net image without permission!

They’re keeping the East Midlands route though “To keep up the competition with Easyjet”

I blame BAA for all this, they say it’s to fund future investment in the airport, but they invest in all their airports yet Glasgow seems to funding BAA’s investment plans the most. Figures were published recently comparing the landing costs for a typical 737 sized aircraft around the UK and even amongst BAA sites, GLA was one of the most expensive.

Why, why, why BAA ???

Presumably talk of the Scottish Executive putting money into their coffers to lower landing rates and attract more business has something to do with it ?

Glasgow has no one but themselves to blame for this. Their high fees demonstrate how easily it for an airport to lose a service such as this and for the airline move to a place where growth and lower prices are not restricted.
